Sunlight-Filled School.

Alderwood Middle School features a two-story main classroom building adjacent to a one-story gymnasium, library and commons area.

Prudential Lighting’s P9000’s were utilized throughout the entry and common areas, recessed into a beautiful wood slat ceiling.

The commons is a multi-functional social and learning space, including areas for eating, socializing, performing, and gathering. The relationship of the library/commons/admin forms the heart of the school, with multi-use outdoor spaces flowing seamlessly from the Commons. A formal performance setting within the commons provides performing arts learning opportunities; computer-based technology and hands-on material fabrication allow for innovative collaboration within the CTE department and with Science and Art instruction. The project includes renovations of existing sports fields, site improvements for new sports fields, parking, bus and auto circulation, emergency vehicle access, neighborhood pedestrian connections, and significant new storm water management facilities.

The new 121,000 square-foot school sits on 19 acres and is designed to serve a student population of 800.  With 34 classrooms, a high-tech gymnasium, spacious common areas and a variously textured interior design, the school promises to provide generations of students with a rich and stimulating learning environment.
